Vietnam Rice Exports Near 3 Million Ton Mark

Vietnam’s rice exports from the beginning of this calendar year to June, 20, have reached 2.96 million tons, and are likely to cross the 3 million mark by the end of this month.

Vietnam’s rice exports this year are down compared to the record exports of last year, but exports in the last two months have helped stage a significant recovery. Vietnam exported about 1.1 million tons of rice in the three months from January to March 2012 while exports totaled about 1.46 million tons in the two months April and May.

Vietnam is targeting about 6-6.5 million tons of rice exports for the full year, while its target for the first six months of 2012 stands at about 3-3.2 million tons, a target it is likely to reach. The country had exported over 3.78 million tons in the first six months of 2011, and about 3.15 million tons over the same period in 2010.
