Global Weather Outlook for Rice

Showers expected at central Nei Mongol, Liaoning, and northern Hebei, in China on Thursday and Friday will total 0.05 to 0.20 of an inch rain daily. Showers and thunderstorms expected over southeast China from Friday through Sunday will total 0.25 to 1.00 inch rain. Remaining parts of the country are expected to remain dry. Monsoon showers last week across southeastern China provided abundant moisture supplies for single-crop rice. Double-crop rice is ripening in the southeast China and harvesting will begin in early June.

Rain and thundershowers are expected at some palaces in Northeast and Southern India through Sunday. Weather is expected to remain dry over remaining parts of country. The Metrological Department has said that the arrival of monsoon rains could be delayed by three to four days beyond the forecast date of June 1.

Very hot and dry weather is expected in most parts of Pakistan through Sunday.

Isolated heavy rain is expected in most parts of Thailand through Friday. Widespread rains are expected over the most parts of Thailand from Saturday to Monday.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms expected across Vietnam through Sunday will total 0.30 to 1.00 inch rain daily. Last week showers maintained abundant moisture supplies for summer rice in southern Vietnam and reversed a below-normal rainfall trend in northern Vietnam.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms expected across Indonesia through Sunday will total 0.20 to 0.70 of an inch rain daily.In the Philippines, Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, are expected to experience mostly cloudy weather and widespread rains through Saturday may trigger flash floods and landslides. The remaining parts of the country are expected to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

Isolated rain is expected in some places in Myanmar, such as Sagaing, Mandalay, Kayah and Magway region through Sunday.

Rain and thundershowers accompanied by squally wind is likely to occur at a few places over Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka & Khulna divisions in Bangladesh on Thursday and Friday. Rest of the country is expected to remain dry.

Scattered showers and storms expected across Parana, SP, and MGDS into Minas Gerias, in Brazil on Thursday and Friday will total 0.20 to 0.60 of an inch rain. Weather will remain mainly dry from RGS to Goias and Mato Grosso on Saturday, while few showers expected in Minas Gerias, Bahia, and northeast Brazil will total 0.05 to 0.20 of an inch rain.

Weather is expected to remain dry across Uruguay through Sunday, favouring harvesting.

A few showers and storms expected across Paraguay on Thursday will total 0.10 to 0.40 of an inch rain, slowing harvesting. Weather will remain mainly dry across Paraguay on Friday and Saturday, favouring fieldwork. Some showers and storms expected on Sunday will total 0.25 to 0.75 of an inch rain, slowing fieldwork.

Weather is expected to remain dry across the Southeast U.S. on Thursday. Some showers and storms expected in the Southeast U.S. on Friday will total 0.25 to 1.00 inch. Weather will remain mainly dry from the southern Plains to the Southeast this weekend. In week ended May 27, U.S. rice producers seeded about 99% of the rice, 8% ahead of last year and 5% ahead of the 5-year average. Despite cool weather, 45% of California’s rice crop emerged during the week, pushing progress ahead of normal for the first time this season. Overall, 69% of the rice crop was reported in good to excellent condition, up 3% from last week and 16% better than the same time last year.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms expected in eastern NT, QLD, and eastern SA, in Australia on Thursday will total 0.25 to 1.00 inch rain. Showers expected in southwest Western Australia on Thursday will total 0.05 to 0.20 of an inch. Numerous showers and thunderstorms expected across QLD and NSW on Friday and Saturday will total 0.50 to 1.50 inches rain. The rest of Australia is expected to remain dry on Friday and Saturday.
