Monitoring the Rice Situation Practised in the Neighbouring Country

Rice growing teachnology, which was takend from An Yang Province, Veitnam, is being prasticed in Korkbanteay Commune, Rolea p'ear District. Mr. Chan Sorun, the minister of MAFF, and his colleagues visited there on 01 Febuary, 2010.

MAFF’ s officers told that the minister went there to check the result of rice growing and present it to the farmer. This presentation was a coorperation between the provincial agriculture officers and the techincan from An Yang Province, Veitnam.

The same officer continued that after observation in general, the rice that is presented was well done, but at he same time, minister recomanded to the technical officers that we should observe the technician in order to follow, such as how to use seeds, fertilizer, land preparation and management. Morover we must consider on some method that could not be used in our country, such as using hormone to speed up rice growth which the ministry of agriculture had a planing to decrease it.

He continued that the minister went together with the deputy governer Mr. Chenh Nhan to Kampong Os Commune, Chol Kiri District to check S.R.I rice cultivation and declare in public on Poleu Chantrea Community Developmen and had a talk in a friendly way with 100 families.

The director of community told us that the community was created in order to improve the living standard of the people though carreer in agriculture such as rice, vegetable, aquaculture, fishery production, animal rising, and cash saving.

There, the minister reminded the community members to promote the growing of inundated forest. In addition, people should not only depend on a single career, but also grow rice and organic vegetable without chemical fertilizer and pertisides usage.

Processing fishery products such as smoked fish, fish past, salt fish, dried fish, which is a traditional culture. The community should monitor the capacity of fish sauce production which is a well paid business. Community must be good coperation and solidarity. Please take the suffering of the poverty today as an experience for a better future.

The minister also give a recommend that the community should change our area to be an Agri-Tourist based on 3 potential source such as flooed forest, rice, organic vegetable, processing of fishery products.

The minister allowed the technical officer to check and assumed what the ministry can contribute to the community regarding to aquaculture, planting flooed forest, processing fishery products with hygiene, and made a group production for sale in the big markets.

In that chance, the minister granted 100 of sandan, 100 bamboo, 2 rice sowing tools to the community.
